What we are doing to help the planet here at madkitty
Here at Madkitty we want to be part of our worlds r-ECO-very.
From 1st August 2021 all our products will have the manufacturers polythene packaging removed and recycled. Everything will be wrapped in 100% recyclable tissue paper when it leaves our warehouse. The tissue paper is acid and chlorine free, undyed, unbleached and non glazed. Just pop it in with your paper recycling.
We have teamed up with DCW as our waste and recycling partner. DCW have a "zero to landfill policy" and have offered us the facility to recycle polythene bags and packaging. You can see DCW's zero to landfill policy here.
Of course if you still want your purchase in it's original packaging ( maybe your buying as a gift ) please leave us a note at checkout and we will be happy to oblige.
We have also teamed up with Kite Packaging who will now be supplying us with postal bags made from 100% Sugar Cane. which, by it's natural growing process, offsets the carbon produced in the bags production. Read more about it Below
- Produced from sugar cane, the greenest material on the market
- Fully recyclable material making it an improved environmental solution
- Contains the same properties as standard oil derived polythene meaning no compromise on the strength or quality
- Carbon neutral – the carbon dioxide taken from the atmosphere in the growing process, offsets the carbon dioxide emitted through production and transport

What is sugar cane?
Sugar cane is a bio-based material that belongs to the grass family and is a naturally grown raw material. Along with a range of other benefits such as capturing CO2 from the atmosphere, sugar canes properties enable it to produce ethanol via a fermentation process, which involves crushing the stalks to extract sugar-rich cane juice beforehand. Therefore, fossil fuel-based polythene is not required, which will prevent emissions from going into the environment.
Why use sugar cane?
Using sugar cane rather than oil has many benefits. As it grows, sugar cane absorbs carbon gas from the air therefore taking it out of the atmosphere rather than emitting it, and due to it being 100% recyclable, it can be fed back into the recycling stream. There are alternatives such as OXY or Biodegradable that cannot be recycled and simply just degrade into small pieces which eventually could lead to them becoming banned in Europe within the coming years. Sugar cane discourages the use of fossil fuels and is grown on reclaimed land, therefore having no impact on the rainforest.
How do I recycle it?
Recycle as you would any other recyclable product. It can then be put back into the recycling process and re-used.
